Abstract

A talentumok példázatát az értelmezők a személyes adottságokra és képességekre értik, melyeket Istentől kaptunk. A példázat tanulságaként pedig azt szokták megfogalmazni, hogy a ránk bízott képességekkel sáfárkodni kell, azokat nem szabad parlagon hagyni. A példázat megdöbbentő eleme azonban a földesúr unszimpatikus személye, és az, hogy számonkéri a szolgát, aki nem vétett. A korabeli források fényében ugyanis azok, akikre az úr több talentumot bízott, gyanús és törvénytelen üzletek révén szaporították a pénzt; az pedig, aki elrejtette a rá bízott összeget, törvényesen és bölcsen járt el. A pénz megőrzése se nem lustaság, se nem hanyagság: éppen ellenkezőleg, felelősséggel járó feladat. A példázat botrányát éppen az adja, hogy Jézus itt nem a törvényes és várt cselekvést jutalmazza, hanem a gyanús haszonszerzést. | The Parable of the Talents is traditionally interpreted as referring to the personal gifts and abilities bestowed upon individuals by God. It is commonly understood to convey the lesson that these entrusted capacities must be actively cultivated and not left unused. Yet, a striking aspect of the parable is the unappealing character of the master and his reprimand of the servant who has committed no wrongdoing. From the perspective of contemporary sources, those entrusted with multiple talents increased their wealth through dubious and unlawful transactions, whereas the servant who concealed the sum entrusted to him acted both legally and prudently. The act of safeguarding the money is neither laziness nor negligence; rather, it constitutes a responsible and deliberate task. The subversive element of the parable lies precisely in the fact that Jesus does not commend lawful and prudent action but seemingly rewards questionable profit-seeking.
