Abstract

Stroke (cerebrovascular accident) results in the brain damage of ischemic or hemorrhagic cause which may ultimately lead to the paralysis of a body part(s) and other disabilities. The current research was conducted to find out the best mode of physical therapy for stroke patients by determining their level of satisfaction amongst educated and uneducated stroke patients treated by male or female physiotherapists and technicians. A total of 72 stroke patients (40-80 years old) were recruited for the study according to particular selection criteria and were treated by male and female therapists. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used. A questionnaire-based data was obtained and analyzed statistically by frequency and tabulation. The results have shown that out of 72 stroke patients, 23 (32%) were satisfied with medical treatment, 44 (61%) with physiotherapy treatment and 3 (4%) with other treatments. 42 patients (58%) were satisfied with the male therapist, 18 (25%) with the female therapist, 9 (12%) with the male technician and 3 (4%) with the female technician. 25 patients (35%) considered electrical modalities, 37 (51%) exercise therapy, 05 (7%) manual therapy, and 05 (7%) other modes as the most beneficial intervention for their recovery. It was noted that most stroke patients (especially educated patients) were satisfied with physiotherapy more than any other mode of treatment, and the majority of these patients preferred exercise/manual therapy as compared to electric modalities from a male therapist. | A stroke (cerebrovascularis baleset) ischaemiás vagy vérzéses okok következtében kialakuló agykárosodás, ami egyes test- vagy testrészek bénulásához, valamint más fogyatékossághoz vezethet. Stroke-os betegek legjobb fizikoterápiás módjának meghatározása férfi vagy női fizioterapeuták és technikusok által kezelt, oktatott, illetve nem oktatott stroke-os betegek elégedettségi szintjének vizsgálatával történik. Összesen 72 (40-80 éves) a kiválasztási kritériumoknak megfelelő, férfi vagy női terapeuta által kezelt stroke-os beteg került be a vizsgálatba. A mintavétel non-probability sampling technikával történt. A kérdőíves adatok statisztikai analízisére a gyakoriság és kereszt-tabuláció alapján került sor. A 72 stroke-os betegből 23 fő (32%) volt elégedett az orvosi kezeléssel, 44 fő (61%) a fizioterápiás kezeléssel és 3 fő (4%) más kezelésekkel. 42 beteg (58%) volt elégedett a férfi terapeutával, 18 beteg (25%) a női terapeutával, 9 beteg (12%) a férfi technikussal és 3 beteg (4%) a női technikussal. 25 beteg (35%) az elektromos modalitásokat, 37 beteg (51%) edzésterápiát, 5 beteg (7%) a manuálterápiát és 5 beteg (7%) más módot értékelte a legkedvezőbb beavatkozásnak a gyógyulás szempontjából. A legtöbb stroke-os beteg (különösen a képzett betegek) elégedettebb volt a fizioterápiával, mint a többi kezelési módszerrel, és többségük a fizikai/manuális terápiát részesítette előnyben a férfi terapeuta elektromos módszereivel szemben.
