Abstract

On the basis of investigations between 1996 and 2004 the author gives the most significant characteristics of the population of 42 waterfowl species hibernant in Hungary or migrating through it. These characteristics are as follows: stock size (absolute maximum, absolute minimum, averages of minima, averages of medians and the averages of maxima), phenology, spatial dispersion and its dinamics (shown on maps) national, regional and local stock-trends referring to the tested period and the space pattern of local stock dinamics (shown on maps) for periods of culmination (Figures 1-65., Maps 3-52.). I was able to give a total picture of 8 huntable and 17 regularly available, altogether 25 species. In file case of further 17 rare, protected species, due to their limited number, I was unable to define a full time-space pattern. Out of the taxons included in the investigation species not seen on the Monitoring area were as follows: Gavia immer, Pelecanus onocrotalus, Pelecanus crispus, Cygnus columbianus, Branta canadensis, Marmaronetta angustirostris, Somateria spectabilis, Oxyura jamaicensis, Oxyura leucocephala. On the basis of the socalled Ramsari 6 critérium indices accepted for certain species, the wetlands of international significance have been defined. (Maps 53-63.).
