Abstract

According to relevant sources of information, which are available about energy prices, the trends in evolution of energy prices are unfavourable for the EU’s energy intensive industries. This study highlights two main problems regarding energy prices. First, energy prices have consistently been rising in the past few years, and as a result, the energy costs for companies have also increased. Second, there are significant differences in energy prices among EU Member States and their main economic partners. If the energy prices, and the differences in energy prices among the countries show a further increase, the production costs of EU’s energy intensive products and the transportation costs will increase compared to its competitors, which will result in substantial adverse effects not only on product export ability, but also on national competitiveness. Apart from energy prices, the amount of consumed energy is another factor that affects energy costs, so the efficient and conscious energy management is playing an increasingly important role in corporate resource management, especially in energy-intensive setors. The aim of this paper was to show the collection of corporate energy management tasks from an economic and management approach. This task collection can be the base of a complex evaluation model of corporate energy management.
