Abstract

A neveléstudományi paradigmák és gyakorlati pedagógiai irányzatok nevelési céltételezését erőteljesen befolyásolja az adott történeti kor és kultúra gyermekről alkotott képe. A nevelés céljának meghatározása nemcsak az embereszmény mint elérendő cél függvénye, hanem a kiinduló állapotot megtestesítő gyermekképé is. A gyermekkép elvont szintjén egy adott korszak és kultúra gyermekről alkotott mentális képei rajzolódnak ki, amelyek nem feltétlenül alkotnak egységes rendszert, de bizonyos tendenciák, domináns szerepet játszó gyermekképek jól elkülöníthetőek. Tanulmányunk fókuszában a 20. század második felétől kezdődő időszakban megjelentő, főleg angolszász nevelési tanácsadó kézikönyvek lapjain testet öltő gyermekkép jellegzetes vonásait keressük. Elemzésünkben a nyugat-európai és amerikai társadalmak liberális nevelésfelfogásából indulunk ki, és áttekintünk néhány emblematikus publikációt, amelyek a gyermekkor radikális átalakulását, vagy akár annak végét jövendölik. Az analízisben elsősorban Benjamin Spock, Marie Winn, Neil Postman és David Elkind emblematikus könyveit vesszük górcső alá, de figyelmet fordítunk az ezredfordulón kibontakozó úgynevezett „Kinderculture” mozgalomra is, amelynek célja a befolyásos nyugati médiabirodalmak által radikálisan befolyásolt gyermekkép és az abból adódó diszfunkcionális szülői nevelés tudományos igényű vizsgálata, illetve az aggasztó helyzetből kivezető út keresése. Tanulmányunk végén kitérünk a kiüresedett és eltorzított gyermekképekből adódó nevelési deficit és pedagógiai diszfunkció elleni tudatos lépések fontosságának megfogalmazására is. | The setting of educational goals within scientific paradigms and practical pedagogical trends is powerfully influenced by the concept of the child held by a given historical era and culture. Defining the aim of education is a function not only of the human ideal as the goal to be achieved but also of the image of the child that represents the initial state. At the abstract level, mental representations of the child formed by a specific era and culture emerge; while these do not necessarily constitute an unified system, certain tendencies and dominant images are clearly distinguishable. The focus of our study is to identify the characteristic features of the child-image embodied in the pages of primarily Anglo-American parenting manuals (advice literature) published from the second half of the twentieth century onwards. In our analysis, we proceed from the liberal educational perspective of Western European and American societies and review several seminal publications that predict the radical transformation, or indeed the disappearance of childhood. The analysis primarily scrutinizes the emblematic works of Marie Winn, Neil Postman, and David Elkind, but also devotes attention to the so-called “Kinderculture” movement emerging at the turn of the millennium. The objective of the latter is the scholarly examination of the image of the child – radically influenced by powerful Western media empires – and the resulting dysfunctional parenting, as well as the search for a solution to this troubling situation. Finally, our presentation addresses the importance of taking conscious steps to counter the educational deficits and pedagogical dysfunctions arising from hollowed-out and distorted images of the child. | La definizione degli obiettivi educativi nei paradigmi della scienza dell’educazione e nei principali orientamenti pedagogici è fortemente influenzata dall’immagine del bambino propria di una determinata epoca storica e cultura. La determinazione del fine dell’educazione dipende non solo dall’ideale umano da raggiungere, ma anche dalla concezione del bambino quale stato di partenza. A livello astratto, l’immagine del bambino riflette le rappresentazioni mentali di un’epoca e di una cultura, che non costituiscono necessariamente un sistema unitario, ma nelle quali è possibile distinguere alcune tendenze e modelli dominanti. Il nostro studio si concentra sulle caratteristiche dell’immagine del bambino che emerge, a partire dalla seconda metà del XX secolo, soprattutto nei manuali anglosassoni di consulenza educativa. L’analisi prende avvio dalla concezione educativa liberale delle società dell’Europa occidentale e degli Stati Uniti e passa in rassegna alcune pubblicazioni emblematiche che preannunciano la radicale trasformazione o addirittura la fine dell’infanzia. In particolare, esaminiamo le opere rappresentative di Benjamin Spock, Marie Winn, Neil Postman e David Elkind, prestando attenzione anche al cosiddetto movimento “Kinderculture”, sviluppatosi intorno al passaggio di millennio, che mira a studiare in modo scientifico l’immagine del bambino profondamente influenzata dai potenti imperi mediatici occidentali e le conseguenti disfunzioni educative, nonché a individuare possibili vie d’uscita dalla situazione problematica. In conclusione, lo studio sottolinea l’importanza di interventi consapevoli per contrastare i deficit educativi e le disfunzioni pedagogiche derivanti da immagini del bambino svuotate o distorte
