Abstract
The perceived authenticity of architectural heritage depends on the understanding of heritage values. A strong sense of place has direct effect on how a community can be engaged to be involved in the maintenance and preservation of the built heritage. Place attachment is stronger in the case of residential buildings, as individuals can connect to their own building and develop a sense of ownership connected to the built environment. This study presents three examples from Budapest, Hungary where the involvement of the community during experience-based cultural events connected to the built heritage led to stronger emotional connection to their building.
