Abstract
Cyberspace is a fundamental concept in our modern world: a hotbed of escalating conflicts of power between the nations of the world, but also a preferred scene of crime, which now poses a similarly dramatic threat to members of society. We would like to provide those who wish to familiarise themselves with the problems of cybersecurity, with a brief overview and background about this strange world, which is unfolding before our eyes, but is in many ways still unknown. First we present the background against which the events of the cyber world unfold. Networking and digitalisation dramatically increase our convenience and well-being, but we have to pay a heavy price. The cyberspace where the digital economy works, where we learn, have fun, build relationships has greatly increased the vulnerability of the individual and society alike. Significant forces are loitering in this digital dimension, seeking to take advantage of these emerging weaknesses. State actors, non-state actors, groups with different motivations, and individuals with offensive intentions are all involved, threatening the online environment. We present the wide range of these cyber actors. We also show what are the threats, different attack methods that different cyber actors operate with. We review the specific problems of cybersecurity, from intrusion detection through attribution difficulties to the topic of deterrence. We take a look at efforts that would support cyberspace security by developing a system of cyber norms. Finally, we also talk about how the latest technologies, like AI can shape cybersecurity trends.
