Abstract
This paper analyses the 2010 performance Légzés (Respiration), directed by Gavril Cadariu, a co-production between the Ariel Theatre for Children and Youth and the University of Arts Târgu Mureș. The study contextualises the production within the history of Hungarian puppetry training in Romania, specifically the 2003 launch of the puppetry specialisation at the university, which filled a gap left by the lack of Hungarian-language higher education in this field. The analysis details the role of key figures, including Cadariu, in establishing this program. Regarding the performance, the paper argues for its postdramatic nature through the analysis of dramaturgy, direction, acting, scenography, and sound design. Finally, it examines the reception history, presenting Légzés as a milestone due to its innovative aesthetic and the director’s specific creative approach.
