Abstract

Az esztergom-tábori 1. páncéloshadosztály – soraiban az esztergo- mi „József nádor” 1. honvéd harckocsiezred párkány-nánai, jászberényi és rétsági zászlóaljainak harcképes részeivel – 1944. szeptember 13-tól volt részese a ma- gyarországi harcoknak, komoly veszteségeket szenvedve. Élelmezési létszáma öt- ezer főre csökkent, bevethető páncélosai közé már csak 4-5 db 40 M. közepes- és 41 M. Turán nehézharckocsi, pár 38 M. Toldi könnyűharckocsi és 10 db 40 M. Nimród páncélvadász tartozott. Részeit gyalogos vagy harckocsikkal megerősített harccsoportokként ve- tették be november végétől a Csepel-szigeten, Pécel, Maglód, Vecsés térségé- ben. 1944. december 25. után Ecsernél, Rákoscsabánál, Rákosszentmihályon és Rákoskeresztúron küzdöttek harccsoportjai. 1945 januárjának elején már Kőbányán folytattak utcai harcokat. Egyetlen mozgósítható tartalékuk a Ma- rika-szakasz (40 honvéd, 2-3 db Nimród) volt, valamint a hadosztálytörzstől összeszedett, teherautón szállított kb. 100 honvéd. 1945. január 17-én a késő esti órákban a hadosztály maradéka a Lánchídon vonult vissza Budára, ahol a kitörésig részeit továbbra is kisebb kötelékekben, német alárendeltségben al- kalmazták. Az 1945. február 11-én indult kitörést követően a honvéd páncélosok gya- logos részei közül Temesy Endre hadnagy, a jászberényi 1/II. harckocsiszázad egyik közepesharckocsi-szakasz parancsnokának csoportja jutott a legmesszebbre, ők 1945. február 15-én Tinnyénél adták meg magukat. A Budán rekedt páncélos részek még napokon keresztül kitartottak: egyik szakaszuk 1945. feb- ruár 13-án szüntette be az ellenállást az óbudai Flórián téren. A budapesti ostromban lényegét tekintve az 1. páncéloshadosztály teljesen felmorzsolódott. E seregtest és az 1. harckocsiezred budapesti harctevékeny- ségéről alig maradt fent levéltári forrás. Támpontot csupán a tiszti okmány- gyűjtők olykor egymásnak ellentmondó anyagai, valamint a harcokban részt vevő páncélostisztek fényképei és évtizedekkel később felvett szóbeli és írásbeli visszaemlékezései jelenthetnek. | The 1st Armoured Division based in Esztergom-Tábor – with the combat-ready units of the battalions from Párkánynána, Jászberény and Rétság of the 1st „József nádor” Honvéd Tank Regiment from Esztergom – took part in the battles in Hungary from 13 September 1944, suffering heavy losses Its strength was reduced to 5,000 men, and its deployable armoured vehicles consisted of only 4-5 medium 40 M and 41 M heavy Turán tanks, a few 38 M Toldi light tanks, and 10 40 M Nimród tank destroyers. Its units were deployed as infantry or tank-reinforced combat groups from the end of November on Csepel Island and in the areas of Pécel, Maglód and Vecsés. After 25 December 1944, its combat groups fought at Ecser, Rákoscsaba, Rákosszentmihály, and Rákoskeresztúr. By early January 1945, they were already engaged in street fighting in Kőbánya. Their only mobilizable reserves were the so-called Marika section (40 soldiers, 2-3 Nimród tank destroyers) and approximately 100 soldiers gathered from the division headquarters and transported by truck. Late in the evening of 17 January 1945, the remnants of the division retreated across the Chain Bridge to Buda, where they continued to be used in small units under German command until the breakout. 11 February 1945, Lieutenant Endre Temesy, commander of a medium tank platoon in the 1/II Tank Company in Jászberény, led a group of infantry soldiers from the Hungarian Army’s armoured forces to the furthest point, where they surrendered on 15 February 1945 in Tinnye. The armoured units stranded in Buda held out for several more days: one of their platoons ceased resistance on 13 February 1945 at Flórián Square in Óbuda. During the siege of Budapest, the 1st Armoured Division was essentially wiped out. There are hardly any archival sources available on the combat activities of this army corps and the 1st Tank Regiment in Budapest. The only sources of information are the sometimes-contradictory documents collected by officers, as well as photographs of the armoured officers who took part in the fighting and their oral and written recollections recorded decades later.
