Abstract

Ez a tanulmány a korai magyar történelemben eddig kevéssé ismert forrást, a Nuzhat al-Qulūbot vizsgálja, Hamd Allāh Mustawfī, a mongol uralom alatt álló Iránban a XIV. század első harmadáig virágzó Ilḫānida Biro- dalom utolsó évtizedeinek kiemelkedő történésze és földrajztudósa munkáját. Hamd Allāh Mustawfī az iráni mongol kor kései periódusának termékeny szerzője volt. Ő írta az Ilḫānida Birodalom földrajzáról szóló legértékesebb és legmegbízhatóbb művet, a Nuzhat al-Qulūbot (1335 után, az Ilḫānida Birodalom bukása utáni időszakban). E munka hatalmas mennyiségű, nélkülözhetetlen információt tartalmaz az Ilḫānida Birodalom közigazgatási rendszeréről. Fontos kiemelni, hogy Ḥamd Allāh Mustawfī a Nuzhat al-Qulūbban sikeresen felelevenítette az Īrān Zamīnról és a haft kišwar rendszerről alkotott, iszlám előtti elképzeléseket, amely nagymértékben tükrözte az iráni identitás változásait az Abbászida Kalifátus 1258-as, mongolok által okozott összeomlását követően. Ugyanilyen figyelemre méltó, hogy ez a gyakran figyelmen kívül hagyott forrás magyarokkal kapcsolatos utalásokat tartalmaz az Ilḫānida Birodalom határvidékeinek leírásakor. A Nuzhat al-Qulūb két alkalommal is megemlíti M.g. ī. r. (vagy M.k.s) népét és a Bāšqūrd nevű helyet. Jelen tanulmány a Nuzhat al-Qulūb e megjegyéseit vizsgálja, értékelve annak lehetséges magyar vonat- kozásait. Míg az első esetben a M.g.ī.r név és a magyarok azonosításának esélye meglehetősen szerény (bár teljesen nem zárható ki), a második esetben – véleményem szerint – valóban felvethető egy eddig nem észlelt rövid, a korai magyarokról szóló utalás lehetősége a Nuzhat al-Qulūbban. Sajnálatos azonban, hogy a Nuzhat al-Qulūb két modern kiadása közül egyik sem tartalmazza a kéziratok térképeit. A kéziratos hagyomány ismerete és a Nuzhat al-Qulūb térképeinek összehasonlító elemzése ezért elengedhetetlen ahhoz, hogy pontos adatokra tehessünk szert a Nuzhat al-Qulūb lehetséges magyar vonatkozású ál- lításairól. | The present paper addresses a hitherto neglected source, the Nuzhat al-Qulūb, the work of Ḥamd Allāh Mustawfī, the eminent historian and geographer from the last decades of the Ilḫānid Empire, flourishing in Mongol-ruled Iran in the first half of the 14th century. As it is known, Ḥamd Allāh Mustawfī wrote extensively on different subjects and apparently, he produced the most valuable and reliable source on the geography of the Ilḫānid Empire (albeit in the post-Ilḫānid period) containing a vast material of indispensable information on the administrative system of the Ilḫānid Empire. It is important that in his work, the Nuzhat al-Qulūb, Ḥamd Allāh Mustawfī successfully revived the rather pre-Islamic idea of Īrān Zamīn and the haft kišwar system which largely reflected the changes of the Iranian identity following the collapse of the Abbasid Caliphate in 1258 caused by the Mongols. It is equally remarkable that this often-overlooked source seems to contain a limited amount of possible Hungarian-related material, when describing the borderlands of the Ilḫānid Empire. Here the Nuzhat al-Qulūb mentions the people of M.g. ī. r. (or M.k.s) and the place called Bāšqūrd on two occasions. The present paper focuses on these two subchapters of the Nuzhat al-Qulūb assessing its possible Hungarian connections. While in the first case the chances to identify the name M.g.ī.r with that of the Magyars are rather modest (though it cannot be excluded completely), in the second case the possibility of a hitherto unnoticed brief statement on early Hungarians in the Nuzhat al-Qulūb is indeed identifiable in my view. It is regrettable, however, that none of the two modern editions of the Nuzhat al-Qulūb contains the original maps attached to the original manuscripts. A comparative analysis of the manuscript transmission and the maps of the Nuzhat al-Qulūb is therefore indispensable in order to come to conclusion about the allegedly Hungarian-linked statements of the Nuzhat al-Qulūb.
