Abstract
We developed a simple method to create hybrid metal-organic framework (MOF) composites to improve CO2 adsorption performance: ZIF-8&ZIF-67 (ZZ), UiO-66&ZIF-8 (UZ), and UiO-66&ZIF-8&ZIF-67 (ZUZ). We conducted structural and morphological characterization using TEM, XRD, FTIR, and EDS to confirm the successful formation of the composites. N2 sorption analysis showed a significant increase in BET surface area. The surface area increased from 582.84 m2.g−1 for neat UiO-66–1672.52 m2.g−1 for UZ, with ZUZ also showing a high surface area of 1169.79 m2.g−1. We carried out CO2 adsorption measurements at 273, 303, and 313 K under different pressures. At 303 K, ZUZ showed higher CO2 uptake, reaching 1.5 mmol/g at 1 bar and 7.0 mmol/g at 10 bars. In contrast, neat UiO-66 only reached 1.2 mmol/g and 3.2 mmol/g under the same conditions. These results highlight how structural hybridization can change porosity and improve CO2 adsorption performance.
