Abstract
The Hungarian water management administration derives from a common historical rule with Austrian water law. Within the framework of this research, we examine what kind of logic the Austrian water law is built. In doing so, we will analyze the provisions of the Austrian Water Law Act (Wasserrechtsgesetz 1959, BGBl. Nr. 215/1959 (WV)) currently in force. Austrian water law distinguishes between publicly owned and privately owned waters and sets different rules for them. The main areas covered by the law are: water use rules, water protection issues, general water management obligations, water companies, regulatory and procedural issues, water and water equipment supervision issues, violations and related sanctions
