Abstract
Cél: A tanulmány célja két, egymástól függetlenül született filológiai-terminológiai vizsgálat rövid, szinoptikus összevetése, hogy átfogóbb képet nyújtson a 19. századi magyar rendészeti terminológia korai alakulásáról.Módszertan: A kutatás a két tanulmány forrásbázisát – lexikográfiai adatokat, sajtóforrásokat, jogszabályokat és szakirodalmi hivatkozásokat – egyesítve vizsgálja a rendőr, csendőr, zsandár terminusok első előfordulásait, jelentésrétegeit és intézményi beágyazottságát.Megállapítások: Farkas és Sallai kimutatta, hogy Márton József 1823-as, háromnyelvű szótárában a Gensdarmes, die Polizei Landreiter címszó magyar megfelelőjeként már szerepel a rendőrző katonaság, rendőr alak. Ezzel párhuzamosan E. Bártfai feltárta a csendőr (1834) és a zsandár (1851) korai adatolását, valamint ezek történeti-intézményi kontextusát: a zsandár jelentése a Bach-korszakban politikailag kompromittálódott, a csendőr 1881-ben intézményesült. A szinopszis rámutat: a rendőr korai, ’pusztázó lovas’ jelentése a vidéki csendőrség felé mutat, míg a sajtóbeli példák a városi rendőrség feladatát előlegezik.Érték: A tanulmány újdonsága, hogy a két különálló vizsgálat összevágó eredményeit együttesen kezeli, így mutatva meg: a magyar nyelv a 19. században unikális módon belső szóalkotással hozta létre terminológiáját (rendőr, csendőr, rendészet), szemben az európai nyelvek jövevényszavakra épülő gyakorlatával. | Aim: The study aims to provide a synoptic comparison of two independently conducted philological-terminological analyses in order to offer a more comprehensive picture of the early development of 19th-century Hungarian law-enforcement terminology. Methodology: By integrating the source bases of the two studies – lexicographic data, press materials, legislative sources, and scholarly references – the research examines the first occurrences, semantic layers, and institutional embeddedness of the terms rendőr [policeman], csendőr [gendarme], and zsandár [gendarme]. Findings: Farkas–Sallai demonstrated that in József Márton’s trilingual dictionary (1823), the entry Gensdarmes, die Polizei Landreiter already includes the Hungarian equivalents rendőrző katonaság [police military] and rendőr. In parallel, E. Bártfai identified the early attestations of csendőr (1834) and zsandár (1851), along with their historical-institutional contexts: zsandár acquired politically compromised connotations during the Bach era, while csendőr became institutionalized in 1881. The synthesis reveals that the early, ‘mounted rural guard’ sense of rendőr points toward the later rural gendarmerie, whereas press examples from the 1830s anticipate the functions of the urban police. Value: The novelty of this study lies in the synoptic integration of two separate analyses, demonstrating that 19th-century Hungarian law-enforcement terminology evolved through internal word formation (rendőr, csendőr, rendészet [law enforcement]) rather than through borrowing, as was typical in other European languages.
