Abstract
Yao, Shun, and Yu have long been revered as sage kings throughout premodern East Asia. This study examines how their cultural memory was constructed in Shanxi from the Warring States to the Tang periods. Through an analysis of pre-Qin texts and key geographical records, it traces how Shanxi came to occupy a central place in remembering these figures. The study highlights the crucial role of texts and their intertextuality in shaping and transforming cultural memory, emphasizing its fluid and dynamic nature.
