Abstract
During the Old Assyrian Colony Period, Assyrian merchants recorded their commercial and economic activities in Anatolia in written documents. Although these documents consist predominantly of commercial and legal texts, they also contain certain records concerning the political, religious, social, and cultural aspects of society. In this study, a school tablet unearthed at Kültepe will be examined. The tablet to be published here for the first time, inventory number Kt 88/k 580, is an exercise tablet of the practical vocabulary type that contains plant names. In this respect, the document is referred to as PVK 3. Kt 88/k 580 differs from other practical word lists at Kültepe in that it is arranged thematically and all signs are written phonetically. The document in question is an important source both for shedding light on the educational practices of the period and for providing information on plant terminology.
