Abstract
The oribatid mite species Galumna acutirostrum (Oribatida, Galumnidae) is known from the Oriental and Australasian regions. Some aspects of its biology have been studied. The duration of development from larva to adult is 33–46 days at ≈ 25 °C when feeding on lichen, fungi, and algae in laboratory conditions. The tritonymphal instar is described; it is characterized within Galumna by: long, setiform rostral, lamellar, and interlamellar setae, with relative lengths in≈le>>ro ; medium-sized, erect exobothridial seta; long, clavate bothridial seta; medium-sized, setiform setae c 1 , c 2 , and c 3 , while other gastronotic setae short, acicular; all gastronotic setae with excentrosclerite at base; median pore present; anterior margin of coxisternum incised medially; epimeral setal formula 3-1-2-2; one pair of posteroventral macrosclerites defined; thick setae on leg segments present.
