Abstract

Az Akadémiai Könyvtár az 1980-as évek végén jól felszerelt, modern könyvtár volt kiegyensúlyozott gyarapítási ráfordítással, korszerű számítástechnikai felszereltséggel, bibliográfiai szolgáltatásokkal, és a legjelentősebb magyarországi tudományos szakkönyvtárnak számított. Az 1990-es években elvesztette irányító szerepét az intézeti könyvtárak felett, és súlyos pénzügyi nehézségekkel szembesült. Az akadémiai intézethálózat átszervezésével 2012-től a könyvtár új feladatokat kapott, és visszanyerte kiemelkedő tudományos szakkönyvtári szerepét: építi és működteti a nemzeti tudományos bibliográfiát, ellátja a tudományos tartalomszolgáltatás feladatait az Elektronikus Információszolgáltatás Nemzeti Programban. Tudománymetriai elemzéseket végez, adatbázisokat épít, a hazai kutatástámogatás központi intézménye. Különgyűjteményeiben nemzeti és nemzetközi kulturális örökséghez tartozó kincseket, hagyatékokat és adományokat őriz, ezeket kiállításokon mutatja be, kiadványokban jelenteti meg. | By the late 1980s, the Library of the Academy had become a well-equipped, modern facility with a balanced acquisition budget, state-of-the-art computer equipment, and bibliographic services. It was widely regarded as the most significant specialized scientific library in Hungary. However, in the 1990s it lost its leading role to the research institute libraries and faced serious financial difficulties. Following the reorganization of the academic institute network in 2012, the library was assigned new responsibilities and resumed its prominent position as a specialized scientific library. It now builds and operates the national scientific bibliography and provides scientific content services within the Electronic Information Service National Programme. It conducts scientometric analyses, builds databases, and serves as the central institution for supporting domestic research. Its special collections preserve treasures, bequests, and donations belonging to the national and international cultural heritage, which are displayed in exhibitions and published in various publications
