Abstract
| A paragenesis rich in secondary phosphates and sulphates was found in the silicified-albitized metarhyolite of the Fényeskő Valley in Diósgyőr, Bükk Mts., Hungary. The original sulphide-rich association was an adularia-sericite alteration of epithermal origin with sulphides (mainly galena, sphalerite, pyrite) and abundant rutile. Subsurface weathering caused secondary sulphate and phosphate mineralization in the strongly fractured zones of the rock. After the dissolution of the sulphides and rockforming minerals the secondary mineralization started with jarosite. It was followed by the formation of Pb and P containing jarosite and sometimes plumbojarosite. The phosphate content of the fluids was increasing with time, incorporating into the jarosite. Parallel to this, the potassium content was reduced, while lead was increased in the jarosite. When the acidic environment, which was created by the alteration of sulphides, changed firstly to neutral, then basic, the fluids became saturated with phosphate and phosphates started to precipitate. The following mineralization sequence was found in this episode: PbFe phosphate-sulphate (corkite), PbAlFe phosphates (plumbogummite?; phosphosiderite; strengite?), and as the final product an FeAl-phosphate, the cacoxenite was found in the strongly weathered Fe oxide rich zones. This is the first documentation of corkite and phosphosiderite in the Carpathian region. Further mineralogical and geochemical investigations are needed to clarify, whether the primary polymetallic sulphide ore mineralization contains gold or not.
