Abstract
A Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum sárospataki Rákóczi Múzeuma 2007 nyarán kezdte meg a Sátoraljaújhely határában található Várhegy régészeti kutatását. Az Árpád-kori forrásokban castrum Patak-ként, vagyis pataki várként emlegetett, vélhetően az egykori pataki erdőispánság központjául szolgáló, az 1530-as években pusztulásnak induló erősség feltárásának első eredményeiről számol be az alábbi közlemény. | In this short report, we summarize the results of the researches started in the castle of Sátoraljaújhely in 2007. The clearing up of the historical questions of the castle connects to Mihály Détshy. He proved that the Castle of Patak, the name of which occurs in the charters from the Age of the Árpáds, did not stand on the territory of the recent Sárospatak, but at the top of Várhegy (=Castle Mountain) in territory of Sátoraljaújhely. It was probably built after the invasion of the Tartars, and began to ruin in the first tierce of the 16th century. The castle had not got any remains on the surface before the excavations because of the forest. In 2007, land-surveying for GIS and geo-electronical measuring were made. The systematic excavation of the castle was began in the summer of 2008. In the southeast part of the plateau of Várhegy, the remains of several cells of the building with East and West direction came to light. Thus, we could determine the last trampled surfaces. We also cleaned the large part of the bail, which was found southward from the building. We documented ruined layers in the western part of the central building under the trampled surface from the Late Age of the Árpáds. During the excavation several dressed stones of the Gothic and the Renaissance Ages were found from the debris layer, while several finds (coins, weapons, common goods) connecting with the everyday life came to light from the trampled surfaces. One of the aims of the excavations, which are planned for one and a half decade, is to show the excavated ruins after the conversation and partial restoration.
