Abstract

A tanulmány Lévay József 1899-ben írt visszaemlékezésének, továbbá az 1892 és 1917 között vezetett naplójának elemzésével mutatja be Borsod vármegye főjegyzőjének, majd alispánjának választott költő életpályáját, társadalmi kapcsolatait, életmódját és mindennapjait. Az általa megélt történelmi és hétköznapi események alapján nyílt lehetőség a nemzetről, a politikai rendről és az alkotmányosságról vallott felfogásának, társadalomképének, valamint a családhoz, a valláshoz és a lokális közösséghez fűződő értékrendjének rekonstruálására. | In the last decades of his life József Lévay — poet, translator of literary work and county recorder — wrote his memoirs and kept a diary about his career and daily activities. The diary shows us the specific characteristic and values of the changing middle class as a social types in the 19th century; the structures and mentality of the new local elites; and how they exercised their authority helped by political and social networks. On the basis of narrative can be examine Lévay’s general way of thinking; his attitudes towards nation, government, parliamentary and local politics, and literary life (as realised in actions in the years between 1892 and 1917); his ideas and intellectual world-view about religion, family, and local community; his connection to the lower-classes (to workers and peasantry); as well as construction of his identity.
