Abstract
The question of whether Janus Pannonius was the author of a Hungarian annalistic work has been the subject of extensive debate. Nevertheless, in the absence of extant works, the hypothesis concerning Janus as a historian remains speculative and unproven. The objective of this paper is to provide a reconstruction of Janus’ historical knowledge of Hungarian history. This objective is pursued through a detailed analysis of the speeches delivered in Rome in 1465, with particular emphasis on the manuscripts preserved in Seville as a central source.
