Abstract

A 20. század első felének francia–magyar kapcsolatrendszere katonai vonatkozásaival kapcsolatban kevés tudományos igényű kutatás zajlott, ebből kifolyólag jelen tanulmány ennek a hiányosságnak az átfogó jellegű pótlására vállalkozik. Az első világháború során több száz magyar állampolgár harcolt a francia haderő kötelékében, az ezt követő évtizedek során pedig folyamatos volt a hasonló nagyságrendű magyar jelenlét a Francia Idegenlégió kötelékében. A második világháborúban ez a szám meghaladta a kétezret a francia hadsereg, majd kisebb arányban a Szabad Francia Erők soraiban. Az 1946-ban kirobbant első indokínai háború során is ezres nagyságrendben találunk magyarokat az Idegenlégióban. Ezen történeti epizódok feltárása hozzájárul a kétoldalú kapcsolatok alaposabb megismeréséhez és újraértékeléséhez. | The exploration of the military aspects of French-Hungarian relations in the first half of the 20th century has been a relatively understudied field, and the present study seeks to address this research gap in a wide-ranging manner. During the First World War, several hundred Hungarian citizens enlisted in the French armed forces. In the subsequent decades, there was a continuous Hungarian presence of a similar magnitude in the French Foreign Legion. During World War II, the number of individuals in this category exceeded two thousand in the French army and, to a lesser extent, in the Free French Forces. During the First Indochina War, which broke out in 1946, the Foreign Legion included thousands of Hungarians in its ranks. Examining these historical occurrences fosters a more profound comprehension and re-evaluation of bilateral relations.
