Abstract

In 2024 the new representative eight-volume Academic History of Iugra was published inKhanty-Mansiisk (edited in chief by R.G. Pikhoia). The work reviews Iugra’s history fromits beginnings to the present day, with dozens of authors participating in its creation. Each of the eight volumes has a peculiar editorial concept. The first volume is exclusivelyarchaeological. The second volume may also be particularly important in Hungary, as ittouches on early Hungarian history, but its main theme is the influence of Novgorod andMoscow on the West Siberian region. The third volume is important and interesting inrelations to the historiography of Russian colonization. The period, covered by the fourthand fifth volumes, since 18th century to 1917 – it was the final establishment of the Russianstate in the region. The theme of the sixth and seventh volumes is the Soviet era, which isgenerally considered a positive period by the authors, as well as the decades since 1991presented in the last book.
