Abstract
The main event of the celebrations commemorating the 600 anniversary of the opening of the Council of Constance (1414–1418) was the large exhibition organised from April to September 2014 in the great hall of the medieval Council Building built between 1388–1391 at the city harbour on Lake Constance. After the great art historical exhibitions devoted to the period of King and Emperor Sigismund in 1987 and 2006 in Budapest, 2005–2006 in New York and Prague, 2006 in Luxemburg, the 2014 event organised by Baden-Württemberg in Constance was part of a long series of German regional exhibitions with a cultural historical focus. The Council, a world event in the Middle Ages, was represented by hundreds of exhibits from all over Europe and from the collections of the United States, both by art pieces of the highest quality and objects of everyday life, from Nowgorod in Russia to Valencia on the Iberian peninsula.
