Abstract
The paper describes the investigation of the mass movements of one of the most dangerous high banks along the River Danube at Dunaszekcso in Hungary. Cracks appeared on this part of the high bank in 2007, indicating the beginning of a new landslide. In autumn of the same year, a geodetic network for observation of the movements was created. The network was measured with GNSS-equipment, Total Stations (direction and distance measurements) and precision levels. In addition, two borehole tiltmeters were installed for continuous measurements. The relationships between the movements and the variations of hydrological, meteorological parameters and the effect of the vegetation were studied to reveal the causes of the movements. It has been found that the ground water level variation relative to the water level of the Danube strongly affects the stability of the high bank.
