Abstract
g-Valerolactone (GVL) was proposed as a renewable, nontoxicreaction medium with negligible vapor pressure for homoge-neous Pd-catalyzed aminocarbonylation reactions. Iodoben-zene as a model substrate and its 4-substituted derivativeswere converted to the corresponding 2-ketocarboxamides withhigh conversions and chemoselect ivities in g-valerolactone.The effect of carbon monoxide pressure and reaction tempera-ture on the conversion and selectivities were studied in therange 1–50 bar and 25–1008C, respectively. The highest con-version and selectivity was achieved at 25 bar and 50 8C for io-dobenzene in GVL for 24 h.
