Abstract

The algal composition of periphyton was studied in the branch-system of the River Danube at Ásványráró and Cikola-sziget on different submersed macrophytes and sterilised reed stems. The samples were collected in 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995. In this paper we presented only the changes of relative importance value of periphytic algal taxa through the changes of relative abundance and frequency from these studies (further results are written in Buczkó and Ács [in press]). It seems that the tendency of the changes of the average relative abundance is increasing and that the number of accident species is decreasing in the sapmles, indicating that the branch system of Szigetköz region has started to lose the richness of species, the unique periphytic algal flora, in many aspects and become more similar to the main arm.
