Abstract

In Russia during the second half of the 19 th century because of the social changes the interest increased towards the foreign literature . For this reason the number of translation s grew significantly . Translating became a literary activity, a profession which needed specific knowledge. The 19 th century deservedly became the “golden age” of translation. This present study aim s to show the characteristics of the second half of 19 th century through the activity of the outstanding translators. We would also like to discuss how the principals and conceptions of the translation change d during the mentioned period and how they took place.
