Abstract
After graduating as a teacher of Hungarian and Latin languages in 1911, my father earned his living as a high school teacher his whole life. He did all of his creative work in part -time. He earned a doctoral degree in 1913 in comparative Slavic linguistics. He described the phonetics of the Slovene dialect of his home village Cankova, and later he wrote a grammar of the „domestic Slovene language”. He compiled a shorter and a longer Russian grammar. Avgust Pavel translated Slovene novels, short stories, poems and folk songs into Hungarian.
