Abstract
The Fire-bellied toad is a common amphibian in the lowland areas of the Carpathian Basin, which is protected since 1974 and primarily threatened by habitat loss. The study species is inculded in the II. and IV. appendices of the Habitat Directive of the EU, with a conservation value of 10 000 HUF. Only a small amount of information is available on its occurrence in Hortobágy.
