Abstract
The transformations of ethyl- or vinyloxirane were studied on AIMCM-41 and A1MCM-48 at 393 K in a pulse reactor. For ethyloxirane the main reaction over the fresh catalysts was the loss of oxygen resulting in the formation of 1-butene. This transformation route was predominant over A1MCM-41 accompanied by some isomerisation leading to butyraldehyde. Over A1MCM-48, however, this product became significant. On overloading the catalysts with the reactant cyclic dimerisation occurred and this reaction was found to be predominant. The reaction pattern of vinyloxirane differed considerably from that of the saturated analog. Deoxygenation was negligible and isomerisation turned to be the main transformation pathway initially. A new and important reaction, ring enlargement appeared as well. On subsequent pulses its proportion superseeded that of isomerisation.
