Abstract
A total of 388 references on African freshwater algae spanning forty-seven years, 1956-2003, are listed in this report. The bibliographic record complements those of Brook et al. (1957) from 1800 to 1955 and Kadiri (1992) from 1956 to 1991. Sub-regionally, North Africa had the highest record of 33.2%, followed by East/Central Africa 29.2%, then South Africa 18.7%, West Africa 13.7% and lastly Madagascar with 5.2% record.
