Abstract

Donnellyanthus is a new genus for the correct accommodation of the enigmatic species Bouvardia deamii Donnell-Smith, ranging from Mexico (Oaxaca) to Honduras and Salvador. Its own special character combination differs from Bouvardia in having imbricate corolla lobes and entire stipules. Therefore it was transferred to Rondeletia by Standley, but it differs also from Rondeletia in having several different flower, ovary and seed characters. Moreover, recent molecular studies placed it on a separate clade well differentiated from the core clade of the other Rondeletia species.
