Abstract
The paper contains a survey, comparison and critical analysis of the most widely known definitions of Slavonic verb aspect. Appreciating their positive features does not prevent the author from determining their negative ones and offering certain modifications to make them more precise. If we accept the presumption that aspect is a universal semantic category which has various manifestations depending on the languages or group of languages (morphologically, syntactically and in terms of the character of opposition), then, apart from defining Slavonic aspect, there is also a need for a universal definition of aspect valid for each language.
