Abstract
The article, a part of a book under preparation, gives a detailed analysis of the motifs in the „povest´” Sobachie serdtse (1925) that could be read on different levels: satyrical, fantastic, allegorical or philososphical. The ambivalent character of the professor, his duality of divine and demonic elements implies the author's main message: the revolution is a bloody chirurgical operation, an unnatural interference into the history, where Man, imaging himself to be in charge of good end evil, creates on a utopian „scientific” dream the new society that is, in reality, totalitarian.
