Abstract
Cognitive linguistics makes a distinction between the description of language and the analysis of cognitive processes of language use. The explanation of the translator’s decisions appears in a cognitive frame and it emphasizes the difference between the two cultures, the conceptual space and the cognitive components of Russian and Hungarian people’s linguistic images. The metaphorisation of place names as a problem during the translation of literary works from Russian into Hungarian is discussed and analyzed in this paper in terms of cognitive semantics.
