Abstract
The present paper deals with the simultaneous appearance of aurora and noctilucent clouds during end of July 1963. The simultaneous appearance of aurora and noctilucent clouds was observed at Lerwick, Shetland Islands and at R¨onnebeck, Germany. As, independently of these phenomena, rockets were launched at Kronogard, Sweden, on July 30, 1963, due to the appearance of the noctilucent clouds, therefore data are available about the average parameters of the mesopause in this time interval. Data about some additional events from the end of July 1963 yielded supplementary information to this main event.
