Abstract
Photoemission induced by nanoplasmonic near-fields enable several intriguing applications such as measurement of nanooptical field enhancement and ultrafast electron microscopy. Here, we investigate the influence of electron rescattering and image charge on nanoplasmonic photoemission and electron acceleration processes induced by femosecond laser pulses. Our simulations confirm that electron rescattering determines essentially the final maximum kinetic energies of electrons, being essential for nanoplasmonic field probing. On the other hand, no significant effect was shown from the image charge in a broad parameter range. These results confirm the robustness of a recently demonstrated measurement method for nanoplasmonic field enhancement (Rácz et al., Nano Lett. 17, 1181 (2017)).
