Abstract

In analysis of drinking water frequently ‘new’ elements are occurring, causing a change in water quality. Among these elements bromates are included. Bromates (BrO3 -) are toxic substance that is not commonly determination in drinking water. They are usually formed as byproducts of water disinfection by ozone in the present of bromine ions (BrO-) in treated water. In some cases, they can be in natural form, for instance in the water source Dvorníky in Slovak Republic. As stated by Environmental Protection Agency bromates are classified as a dangerous substance that can cause health problems and therefore they must be removed from the water.
