Abstract

Josephus/József Kosdi tekinthető az utolsó magyar hallgatónak, aki hivatalosan (1794-ben) beiratkozott a Franeker Egyetemre. Ő volt az utolsó a több mint 1200 magyar és erdélyi hallgató közül, akik 1585-ben, az egyetem alapítása óta Franekerbe jártak. Sajnos 1811-ben az egyetemnek be kellett zárnia kapuit a francia császár, Napóleon, az akkori holland uralkodó parancsára. Hogy ez a tény Magyarországon ismeretlen maradt, egy 1856 decemberében írt levélből derül ki, amelyet a magyar református helyettes püspök, Gabriel/Gábor Báthory junior küldött a franekeri teológiai kar (Facultas Theologica) professzorainak. Ebben a levélben Báthory azt kérdezi, hogy vannak-e még tanulási lehetőségek a karon a magyar hallgatók számára, konkrétan, hogy van-e még számukra elérhető Stipendia. | Josephus/ József Kosdi can be considered the last Student from Hungary who enrolled officially (1794) at Franeker University. The last one also of more than 1.200 Hungar-ian and Transylvanian Students, visiting Franeker since the start of the University in 1585. Unfortunately in 1811 the University had to close its gates on the authority of the French Emperor Napoleon, the Ruler of the Netherlands at that time. That this fact remained unknown in Hungary is evident from a letter, in December 1856 sent by the Hungarian Reformed Deputy Bishop Gabriel/ Gábor Báthory junior to the Professors of the Faculty of Theolog y (Facultas Theologica) in Franeker. In this letter Báthory is asking if there are still study opportunities at the Faculty for Students from Hungary, specifically, if there are any Stipendia still available for them.
