Abstract

The title page in the copy of the Pharmacopoea Austriaca (1820) owned by the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, bears the name of its possessor, a certain J. Hermann. The fact that the stamp of the Library of the Municipality Museum of Pécs and a handwritten list of medicaments stored at a pharmacy of Mohács can be seen on the title page verso makes it probable that the first owner of this copy was Dr. János Hermann, the head physician of Baranya County from the 1830s to his decease. This paper aims to draw a portrait of a physician from the Hungarian Reform Era, briefly sketches the history of the first pharmacy in Mohács and provides the transcription of the handwritten pharmaceutical items in Latin.
