Abstract

The Council of the University of Debrecen accepted the proposal to establish a five -year degree course in agri- infor matics, in October 2001. This proposal had been accepted by the Ministry of Education, and we forwarded it to the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, which also accepted it. The course is run by the Agricultural Economics and Rural Development Faculty, the Agriculture Agronomy Faculty and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. This course was created to meet demand from the Hungarian agri-food sector, governmental offices and institutes, which all need a wide range of computerized tools and systems. Actual teaching will begin in the 2003/2004 school year. The percentage of computer sciences knowledge offered in this program is approximately 40 percent.
