Abstract

My main purpose in this study was to find out and publish Som’s outstanding artist’s, Iványi-Grünwald Béla painter’s real data on his life and work. Even as a student and now as an adult it has always bothered me that the publicists writing about him handled his life events with ease, a lot of the time in different ways. Unfortunately, my research proved that the artist himself is the cause of the miscomprehension surrounding his birth, as he was born Hebrew but before his wedding he converted to the Roman Catholic faith, however he lost the support of the majority of his family and his old denomination. Throughout his life, he supported these untrue claims, which I was only able to correct after the publication of my book, in possession of the necessary documents. In addition to that I tried to discover more about the further lives of his family members. It is unfortunate, but with the death of his son, this branch of the Grünwalds became extinct. I sincerely hope that reading my book and study will help getting to know the painter Iványi-Grünwald Béla better, and acknowledge him and his work based on true facts.
