Abstract

The stratigraphic record of the different species belonging to genus Geczyceras MARTÍNEZ , 1992 once found in the Iberian Range and Betic Cordillera stretches from the Variabilis/Gradata Zone to the Aalensis Zone of the Toarcian. Most of the species, including G. speciosum (JANENSCH ), G. perplanum (PRINZ ), G. porcarellense (BONARELLI ) and G. allobrogense (DUMORTIER ), are represented in both mountain ranges. Geczyceras costulosum (MERLA) and G. cf. tipperi (SEYED -EMAMI ) are, however, only represented in the Betic Cordillera, while G. costatum (GABILLY ), G. clausum (GABILLY ) and G. gabillyi MARTÍNEZ are only represented in the Iberian Range. The present work compares the biostratigraphic distributions of the species of this genus identified in these domains, and notes differences between the first and last records for the most common.
