Abstract

This chapter will review NATO's impact on defence institutional development in Hungary, with special regards to developments within the military, to see to what extent forces of institutional isomorphism may have operated in this respect. Capability development is also assessed as a part of this. Subsequently, the chapter will seek to present perceptions and other cognitive aspects of the way the political elite, the public and the military approach the Alliance, to explain certain deficiencies identified in the previous section. Based on this overview we finally offer a strategic assessment of how NATO membership impacted on Hungarian foreign and security policy.
