Abstract

There are not enough studies in which agronomic studies on wheat are evaluated in terms of mineral content. This research was carried out to determine the differences in mineral content of 42 bread wheat varieties. Ground grains of bread wheat varieties were used as material. Average Cu, Fe, Mn, Se, Zn, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni and Pb contents of the wheat varieties were 1.38, 15.6, 31.1, 0.066, 2.19, 0.041, 0.0064, 0.052, 0.147, 1.20 and 0.185 ppm, respectively. The data obtained from present study indicate that mineral nutrient content of bread wheat genotypes were different to each other. Differences in grain mineral element contents among varieties could be associated with differences in adaptation ability of genotypes, genotypic structure and reaction to different soil and climate conditions. The intake of plant nutrients and their interaction with each other is one of the issues that should be carefully considered. The tested wheat varieties showed significant differences in terms of mineral content. However, there is a need for more detailed studies using fewer varieties (such as Sultan-95, Uzunyayla and Dogu-88, which are prominent in this study) in order to make more accurate recommendations about the mineral content of wheat.
