Abstract

A konferencia címében felsorolt három alapfogalom közül csak kettőt – struktúra, textúra – szokás az építészettel kapcsolatban emlegetni. A harmadik, a faktúra szó inkább a képzőművészetben használatos, de fenntartás nélkül alkalmazható az építészetre is, ha a kivitelezést, az elkészítés módját értjük alatta. A tanulmányban e három fogalmat ebben a kézenfekvő értelemben használom, kíváncsian arra, hogy mennyiben értékelődnek át e szavak ma, a számítógépes tervezés korában – és tovább szűkítve a kört, hozzáteszek még egy szót: itthon – Magyarországon? A digitális éden iránti vágyak annyira erősek, a számítástechnika kultúraformáló hatása olyan intenzív, még az anyagi lehetőségeit és az építőipar fejlettségét tekintve elmaradott Magyarországon is, hogy az építészettel foglalkozva sem hagyhatjuk figyelmen kívül a digitális technika hatásait. E vázlatos tanulmány szándékoltan nem teljes körű, a konferencia témáját kissé sarkítva nem az anyagszerűséggel, hanem az építészetnek kizárólag a digitális technikára épülő (vagyis azt nem csupán mellékesen felhasználó) szegmensével foglalkozik. A digitális építészeti struktúra, textúra és faktúra fogalmainak történeti összefüggésekben történő elemzéséhez hazai viszonyok között a CET tűnik a leginkább kézenfekvőnek három okból is: 1. létrehozásában alapvető szerepe van a számítógépnek, anélkül ezt a felületet és szerkezetet – ebben a formában – nem lehetett volna sem megtervezni, sem megvalósítani; 2. megépült, tehát reprezentatív példája annak a törekvésnek, amelyik a „provinciális” magyar építészetet „élvonalbeli” nyugati építészek reprezentatív épületeinek a fővárosba importálásával gondolta frissíteni és a nyugati vérkeringésbe kapcsolni; 3. a CET nem önmagában áll, hanem Budapest egy várostörténeti és ipartörténeti szempontból kiemelt jelentőségű helyén, meglévő, védett épületekhez kapcsolódik: a CET Közraktárakhoz való viszonya akaratlanul is jelképes a régi (hagyományos) és az új (digitális) kapcsolódásának szellemi és fizikai valóságát tekintve egyaránt. | From the three concepts listed in the title of the conference only two – structure and texture – are normally referred to in architecture. The third one – facture – is primarily used in fine arts, but is just as well adaptable to architecture if we mean construction, or the manner in which it is executed. The above three concepts are used in this manifest sense in the essay, wondering in what way their meanings change today in the age of computation – and adding one more concept, narrowing the scope: here – in Hungary. Desires for digital paradise are so strong and the culture-forming power of computation is so intense even in Hungary, where the scarce economic opportunities and the underdevelopment of the construction industry are evident, that one can not disregard the effects of digital technology even with regards to architecture. This study is deliberately incomplete, and by slightly polarizing the theme of the conference, it concentrates on the digitally determined segment of architecture (that is not on the computer aided segment) rather than materiality. To analyze the concepts of architectural structure, texture and facture in a historical context, the CET building seems to be the most suitable example for three different reasons: 1) the computer has had an essential role in its design; its surface and structure – with this shape – could not have been designed and executed without computers; 2) it has been already built, and thus it represents the effort of updating and engaging „provincial” Hungarian architecture in the bloodstream of contemporary architecture by importing „mainstream” Western architects; 3) CET is not a detached building, it is connected to existing, historically listed buildings, and was built on a distinctly meaningful site of the urban and industrial history of Budapest: the relationship of CET with the old Warehouses is unwittingly symbolic regarding the relationship of old (traditional) to new (digital), both in mental and physical sense.
