Abstract

The Architectural-Ethnographic Complex “Etar” is recognized as one of the most remarkable examples for presenting the craftsmen’s culture in the pre-industrial period among the European open air museums. The museum’s main priority is to preserve the authenticity and to ensure vital durability of the craftsmen’s skills. Another basic task of the museum is tracing and presenting the “Living Human Treasures” of Bulgaria. The focus of interest is fixed on the man, bearer of traditional activities and skills, who mastering the skills can hand down his knowledge to the next generations.This scientific report presents a few contemporary challenges ahead of “Etar” and the variety of activities, projects, programmes and events to which the museum plays host to.
