Abstract

Two new species of the genus Didymaea from Oaxaca and a new species of the genus Mitracarpus from Campeche — both belonging to the tribe Spermacoceae — has been detected and are described by the authors. D. ixtepejiensis is a dense, creeping herb of a high-montane pine woodland, with 1-nerved leaves. The next related species is D. microphylla L. O. Wms. with stipules divided to the middle and rotate corolla with 3-nerved lobes divided almost to the base. D. ixtepejiensis differs from it by having stipules divided to the base and campanulate corolla with lobes divided only to the middle, without conspicuous nerves. The other new species, D. naniflora has 3-nerved leaves and is related to the D. floribunda Rzed., which has flowers in bracteate dichasia and naked corolla lobes, while D. naniflora has solitary and very small flowers with pulverulent corolla lobes. Mitracarpus gypsohilus is a perennial herb unique living on gypsum soils and differs from all the other Mexican plants of this genus in having short discoloured leave and simple stipules without forming a stipular sheet.
