Abstract

Platinum complexes (trans-PtCl2L2) containing monophospha-crown ethers (L) were synthesised and used as catalyst precursors in asymmetric hydroformylation of styrene. Chemoselectivities of up to 90% toward aldehydes were obtained. The branched aldehyde (2-phenylpropanal) was slightly favoured for the reaction and e.e-s of up to 52% were obtained. Similar selectivities and higher activities were obtained in the presence of rhodium–monophospha-crown ether catalysts formed in situ.
